Edna Mae Green was born October 13, 1914 in Pawanee, Illinois to Clarence and Mabel (Charles) Green. When Edna was a small child, her family moved to Tovey, IL where her dad worked in a coal mine. It was in Tovey that Edna graduated from high school. Following graduation, she did housework for a family and worked in a restaurant. She later worked in a factory in Chicago, IL assembling speedometers. When the factory shut down, she went to work for the Rudis’ family, where she took care of a baby and a mentally handicapped boy for ten years. During WW II, Edna worked on the assembly line of a defense factory for three years. When the war was over, she returned to work for the Rudis’ family.

Edna was united in marriage with Harold Savig, November 9, 1949 at First Lutheran Church on LaSalle Street in Chicago, IL. They honeymooned in Arkansas, where Harold benefited from the salt baths there. Harold had just come out of the hospital. He had been ill with malaria and pneumonia from the war effort. They lived on Berry Street in Chicago for 16 years, Wauconda, IL for 17 years and in Detroit Lakes, MN for 26 years. Harold died in 1994 and Edna entered Emmanuel Nursing Home in 2008.

Edna enjoyed delivering meals at Pleasantview in Detroit Lakes and volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital, which she did for many years.

Edna is survived by 18 nieces and nephews; 58 grandnieces and nephews; 104 great grandnieces and nephews; and 15 great great-grandnieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Ruby Green. In addition to her husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, Crystella Clark, Delbert Green, Elsie Foster and Buenta Green; three nephews, Percy Olson, Roger Savig and Robert Savig; a niece, June Woodard and a grandnephew, Daniel Savig.
