Edwin Mastin

Edwin Loren Mastin, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25th, 2021.

Born, April 6th, 1938, to Virgil and Elsie (Eckenrode) Mastin in Frazee, MN.

Edwin is survived by his children; Loren (Trish) Mastin of Mound, MN, David (Tana) Mastin of Cambridge, MN, Marie (Sam Frost) Skoblik of Bluffton, MN, Lynn (Ron) Litzau of Menahga, MN; 12 grandchildren; siblings, Virgil (Pat) Mastin of Detroit Lakes, MN, Joyce (Bruce) Peterson of Montevideo, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 5 brothers, 1 granddaughter, Elsie Michele.

Edwin grew up in Detroit Lakes, MN on the family farm.  He joined the United States Navy in 1955 and spent 6 years in service to his country.  He traveled all over the world in places like Okinawa, Japan; Hong Kong, China; Korea; Philippines; and many other places. He toured on the U.S.S. Hancock, CVA19 aircraft carrier ship. He was honorably discharged on a service disability on April 15th, 1961, where he sustained an injury while working as part of the crash crew.  He obtained the rank of U.S. Navy, Airman, E3.

Edwin worked for Gabor Trucking in Detroit Lakes, MN for 18 years.  He and his, then wife Judy Mastin, moved to Park Rapids, MN in 1980 and co-owned the Park Terrace Motor Lodge and River Room restaurant with his brother Gordy (Carol) Mastin of Park Rapids, MN.  Ed and his family spent 12 wonderful years in the food service and hospitality industry and huge supporters of tourism in the Park Rapids area.

Edwin will be most remembered for his infectious smile, great sense of humor, ability to tell a good story, fellowship with friends and family and his ability to play a good hand of cards.

Visitation and Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30th, 2021, at Lund Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes with visitation at 1pm and 2pm funeral service. Interment to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
