Elaine Hoban, 86, of Ogema, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema, MN at 10:30AM. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church from 5-7PM, with a 6:30PM prayer service. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Thursday. David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Elaine Helen Teiken was born at home in Ogema, MN on February 28, 1935 to Henry and Anna (Jasken) Teiken. She graduated from Waubun High School with the class of 1952.
On May 5, 1954, Elaine “Pon” was united in marriage to James “Sonny” Hoban. The couple bought the James Hoban Sr. farm. Together the couple farmed and raised seven children. They lived on the farm until their passing. For extra money, Elaine planted trees, and picked potatoes during the summer. Later in life, she worked at the Shooting Star Casino as a cashier in the buffet.
Elaine liked to grow vegetables in her garden and loved the flowers around her house. She also enjoyed braiding rugs and quilt making in her spare time. Elaine’s greatest joy was her family gatherings. She loved to see all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the casino with her special friend, Albert Schouviller.
Elaine was a member of the Neighborhood Homemakers for numerous years, a longtime member of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Ogema.
Elaine is survived by her children Jeff (LaVerne), Mark (Barb), Barb Accobee, Jamie (Lee) Weigel, Kristi (Joe) Bellefeuille; sister Marge McArthur; sister in-laws Trula Teiken, and Maryann Teiken; brother in-laws Louis Trujillo and Boy Boy McArthur; 17 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Elaine in death were her parents; husband James; son Patrick Hoban; daughter Mary Haugen; sisters Irene Reller, Doris Reller, Frances Brakefield, Marie St.Germain-Lohman, and Lorayne Trujillo; brothers Joseph”Bud”Teiken, Leonard Teiken, Hank Teiken, Maurice “Boots”Teiken, Leo Teiken, and Dave Teiken; and extended family.
Also we would like to thank the staff of the Hospice of the Red River Valley. A special thank you to Grace Clark and Kay Adler for helping care for mom at home.
