Elmer J. Wolff, 83, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at St. Mary’s Innovis Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services for Elmer will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 6 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, December 5 with a Rosary service at 6:30 PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Elmer John Wolff was born November 27, 1925, in Harvey, ND to Rudolph and Margaret (Sauter) Wolff. He served as a medical technician in the United States Army during World War II, including Okinawa, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Elmer married Betty (Geiss) Wolff on May 4, 1956 in Mandan, ND. After their marriage they made their home in Bismarck. Elmer worked for Swift & Company for 36 years. During his career they lived in Bismarck, ND, Minot, ND and in 1969, Elmer and Betty moved to Detroit Lakes, MN. Elmer retired in 1983.
Elmer particularly enjoyed and excelled at his roles as husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was looking forward to introducing the latest generation to fishing at The Fish Hatchery. Elmer enjoyed playing the trombone, singing and whistling. He also took pride in his gardening and yard work. He will be missed at The Mall and The Beach for his morning walks.
Elmer will be remembered and missed by his wife of 53 years, Betty; two daughters, Kathy (Grant) Getman of Phoenix, AZ and Diana (Jay) Horn of Concord, NC; four granddaughters, Jennifer (Anthony) Gutwein of Indianapolis, IN, Sarah Getman of Phoenix, AZ, Ashley and Emily Horn of Concord, NC; and one great-granddaughter Grace Gutwein. He is also survived by his sisters Eleanor Hillstrom and Helen (Steve) Weston, both of Minneapolis, MN. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents
