Elsie R. Larson, 78, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, March 25 at St. Gabriel's Nursing Home in Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 31 at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, Rev. Brenda North, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call 4:00 – 7:00 PM Friday at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Elsie Ruth Larson was born April 15, 1933 in Hoople, ND to William and Edna (Johnston) Ginder. She was raised and educated in Hoople. Following graduation from Hoople High School, she received her teacher's training at Mayville State College in Mayville, ND. She then taught school in Montana, Oregon and North Dakota. Elsie was united in marriage to Rollie Larson August 13, 1960 in Crystal, ND. They lived in Hatton, ND prior to moving to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1964. Elsie taught at Rossman Elementary School until the birth of her children. After Rollie's death in 1984, she returned to teaching where she was an instructor in the G.E.D program at the Detroit Lakes Area Vocational College and later was the supervisor of the D.L.A.V.T.I Resource Center. Elsie was a life long member of the Methodist church and was active with the church choir. She adored her four grandchildren, enjoyed gardening and was active in the neighborhood birthday club. Survivors include a son: Allan (Cinda) of Ballwin, MO, a daughter: Beth Ann (Mitch) Larson-Steckler of Bismarck, ND, four grandchildren: Ellyse and Joshua Larson-Steckler, Nicholas and Paige Larson, a brother: William (Marilyn) Ginder of Hoople, ND. In addition to her husband, Rollie, she is preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Kincaid and an infant brother.
