Elwood Fearing

Elwood Lee was born March 7, 1938 on the family farm near Osakis, MN to Rudolph and Verona (Moore) Fearing. He attended a small country school near Osakis before his family moved to Detroit Lakes. They later relocated to Fargo, ND and for a short time in Fresno, CA before moving back to the Fargo area in 1949. In 1956, Elwood graduated from Central High School in Fargo. He enrolled at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, graduating in 1958 with a degree as a linotype operator. Following his schooling, he accepted his first job with the Harwood Newspaper in Harwood, ND and later Red River Scene in Moorhead, MN. On August 6, 1960, Elwood was united in marriage to Sandra Ness at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo. In 1964, Elwood starting working for the Forum Newspaper in Fargo, retiring in 2000 after 36 years with the company. Throughout his working career, Elwood delivered the Forum Newspaper where his route took him from Fargo to Crookston and every small town in between. Elwood made many friends throughout the years and cherished those friendships long into retirement. That same year, Elwood realized he was not ready to fully retire, so he started a new route. He accepted a job with Aurora Casket Company in Fargo, where from 2000-2006 he traveled the same roads he grew so fond of delivering caskets to various funeral homes in Minnesota and North Dakota. While living in Fargo, Elwood enjoyed bowling, dancing, woodworking and card club with his wife and friends. Elwood and Sandi enjoyed their home on Upper Cormorant Lake near Lake Park, MN where he enjoyed a nice day out on the lake fishing. Elwood found great joy in being "Grandpa"/"Papa" and made it a point to attend his grandkids activities as much as possible. With his strong faith, Elwood instilled in his family the value of having a church home. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes where he served as an elder for many years, attended bible study, and was a fixture at Thursday evening worship service. Elwood will be remembered and missed by his wife of 51 years: Sandra Fearing of Lake Park, MN, sons: Patrick (Melissa) Fearing of Lake Park and Jay (Lori) of Moorhead, MN. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Nicole Fearing of Rugby, ND, Jessica Fearing of Fargo, Jason and Tyler Fearing of Moorhead and Ava Fearing of Lake Park along with one sister: Murna (David) Kalms of Los Angeles, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his Goddaughter and niece: Tonya Foss, one nephew: Daniel Lako and mother and father-in-law: Harry and Phyllis Ness.
