Ervin Nordlund

Ervin S. Nordlund, 86, Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, January 4 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8 at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Eric Lemonholm, officiating. Interment will be in the Strawberry Lake Mennonite Cemetery, rural Ogema, MN with Military Honors provided by the Lake Region Color Guard. Friends may call 5:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Ervin S. Nordlund was born September 11, 1922 in Middle River, MN to Axel and Alma (Lingensjo) Nordlund. He was raised and educated in rural New York Mills, MN. He worked for the CCC Camp near Big Falls, MN. Ervin served with the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Hanninen in March, 1946. He married Darlene Power Larsen October 25, 1969 in Watertown, SD. During his working life, Ervin worked for Ole Lind Boat Works, did carpenter work, worked for Knutson Brothers Texaco, owned and operated Hwy 10 Texaco, worked for U B C, the Peavey and Stenerson lumber yards, all in Detroit Lakes, and was the caretaker for the Highway 10 rest stop near Frazee. He retired in 2006.

Family was number one in Erv’s life. He loved taking his grandchildren fishing. Hunting, playing cards, the Minnesota Twins, watching Walker, Texas Ranger and Wheel Of Fortune were some of his favorite past times. His church family, his volunteer work as the Senior Citizens Center and his friends were a big part of his life, as well. .He was a life member of the American Legion and the V. F. W.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Detroit Lakes; children, Ronnie (Linda) of Detroit Lakes, Terry (Ann) of Bemidji, MN, Janis (Gary) Olson of Detroit Lakes, Diane (Dennis) Castagneri of Detroit Lakes, Sherri Anderson of Fargo, ND, Kristi (Don) Nicholson of Hawley, MN, Darla Nordlund of Fargo, ND, Kevin (Kim) of Owatonna, MN, Jason of Brainerd, MN; step-sons, Terry (Elsie) Larsen of Detroit Lakes, MN and David (Jackie) Larsen of Eagen, MN; son-in-law, Mike Disse of Chicago, IL; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren two sisters, Hulda (Charles) Rossum of Branden, MN and Linda Roberts of New York Mills, MN. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale; step-daughter, Bonnie Disse; three brothers and one sister.
