Evelyn Knutson

Evelyn "Evie" I. Knutson, age 93, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Oak Crossing. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes with Pastor Roy Noel officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be made at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Evie was born June 26, 1922, in Hitterdal, MN, to Nels and Ida Dahl. She grew up in Hitterdal where she attended country school. Evie met Custer Knutson at a dance in Lake Park, MN. The couple married June 27, 1945, at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They had a son, Bryan and daughter, Karen. Evie enjoyed her time as a homemaker while Bryan was young. Evie then went to work as a housekeeper with Holland Motel, now known as the Best Western, where she worked for 22 years, retiring in 1984. She then cared for her mother-in-law for several years. Evie was a gracious host and homemaker, and had a way of always making family and friends feel welcome. She adored her neighbors and was grateful for all of the help that Wade Olds provided to her; he was thought of as family. Evie enjoyed gardening, especially vegetables which she canned, cooking and baking, and loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. She liked watching the Minnesota Twins, until recently, when her eyesight began to fail. During her younger years, Evie enjoyed fishing with her husband, playing bingo with her best friend, Joyce, along with occasional trips to the casino. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Bunnis of Detroit Lakes; son, Bryan (Annie) Knutson of Detroit Lakes; grandchildren: Scott (Stacy) Bunnis of Lake Park, Mark (Kyla) Bunnis of Lake Park, Chris (Jen) Bunnis of Detroit Lakes, April Whalstrom of Fargo, ND; special great granddaughter, Angel Issertell of Fargo; along with many additional great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and brother, Ervin Dahl of Hawley, MN. Preceding Evie in death were her parents; husband, Custer; grandson, Daniel Bunnis; sister, Vi Zachariason; and brothers: Delvin Dahl, Walter Dahl, Clarence Dahl, and infant brother, Elmer.
