Evelyn D Watson, 88, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral Services for Evelyn will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2011 at 10:30 AM in Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel. Visitation will be held at Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel one hour prior to services. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Evelyn "Ev" was born July 14, 1923 in Saskatchewan, Canada while her parents were immigrating to the United States from Paris, France. Evelyn grew up in Eveleth, MN and attended Eveleth High School where she graduated with honors. She participated on the swim team where she received numerous awards and medals and also played cello in the orchestra. She attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, earning a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology. She furthered her education at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis and completed her graduate work in Psychology. Evelyn completed her internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Evelyn retired from the state of Illinois as a Counseling Psychologist. She was also a Guidance Counselor for the School of Nursing at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL. Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Her home was always filled with love and laughter where friends and family would always feel welcome. Evelyn was a beautiful seamstress throughout the years and often won prizes for her work. She enjoyed baking, especially if it was bread. She was always active in church activities, singing alto in the church choir and volunteering to be the Sunday reader during worship as long as her health permitted. Evelyn's generous nature and giving spirit will be missed by her children: Janet Burbel of Maplewood, MN, Sandra (Charles) Gardner of South Bend, IN, Richard (Verna) Watson of Detroit Lakes and Pamela Gerber of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren along with two great great grandchildren on the way. She is preceded in death by her son: Roger Watson, long time companion, William Earley, brothers: Lynwood deGreullier, Arnold Bouchard and one adopted sister: Mame Bouchard.
