Faye E. Stanhope, 91, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, August 18 at St. Mary’s Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 22 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes with Chaplain Tim Cook, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Faye Evelyn Baakkonen was born February 23, 1917 in Leaf Lake Township near New York Mills, MN to Abram and Felta (Haapa) Baakkonen. She married Vernon Stanhope October 27, 1935. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1948 where they divorced some years later. Faye worked for Swift and Company for a number of years and then worked as a domestic for a number of Detroit Lakes residents. She entered St. Mary’s Nursing Center in June, 2005.
Faye was very proud of her Finish background and would tell you that she was “Finn”.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane and her husband Harlan Lewis of Delano, MN; sons, Jack Stanhope of Baudette, MN and James Stanhope of Aurora, MN; grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Deb Stanhope of Pembina, ND, Debra and her husband William Jerome of Pembina, ND, David and his wife Tamara Stanhope of Pembina, ND, Siiri J. (Lewis) and her husband Michael Burmeister of Waconia, MN, Bradley D. Lewis of Kenosha, WI, Michelle and her husband Kevin Oman of Aurora, MN, Corey and his wife Becky Stanhope of Duluth, MN; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren.
