Florence was born March 15, 1919, in Waubun, MN, the 3rd of 6 children born to Gunder and Clara (Sorenson) Christofferson. She grew up on a farm south west of Waubun. She attended school in Waubun and graduated from Waubun High School. Following high school, Florence attended two years of business college in Detroit Lakes. She then went to work for Rural Electric Association in Mahnomen, MN. It was there she met Francis Fritz, an electrical contractor. The couple was married in 1941 in Detroit Lakes. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1942. The couple was blessed with 5 children. Florence enjoyed the years she was home caring for her growing family. It was during these years that Florence enjoyed volunteering with the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and was also very active with the Christian Mothers at Holy Rosary and took delight in playing bridge regularly. She was an excellent cook and baker and canned and froze the abundance she harvested each year from her gardens. She was well known for her lefse and a freezer full of bars and cookies. The family took yearly trips out west to the Black Hills, Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. In 1961, the family took a trip to the World Fair in Seattle Washington and, in 1967, traveled to Montreal, Canada for Expo 67. In 1999, after her 80th birthday, Florence traveled to Norway and was disappointed by the lack of lutefisk and lefse. Later on, Florence and Fritz enjoyed traveling with some of their grandchildren. The family spent Memorial Day each year at the Round Lake Duck Camp and summers at Lake Six. Once her children grew older, Florence went back to work as a Secretary at the Detroit Lakes Junior High School, a position she held until retirement. Blessed with extraordinary energy, Florence was able to pursue many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed gardening, golfing, walleye fishing, sewing, knitting, playing cards (very competitively) and reading. Most of all, she treasured time with her family; and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. One major accomplishment in her life was compiling a family genealogy book – a two year project. Her life was saddened with the passing of her husband, Francis in 1996. In 2004, Florence moved into the assisted living, and eventually into The Cottages at Ecumen where she remained until the time of her passing. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by five children: Thomas (Cathy) of Detroit Lakes, Michael (Corrine) of Eden Prairie, MN, Francene (Michael) Brouillard of Fargo, ND, Kathryn (Phil) Ellingson of Fargo, ND, and Nancy (Michael) Beach of Motley, MN; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters: Joy (Bob) Agrimson of St. Paul, MN and Verona "Pep" Gordon of Chaska, MN; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding Florence in death were her parents; husband, Francis; two brothers: Glen and Dick; one sister, Kit Peterjohn; and two brothers-in-law, Bud Gordon and Dan Peterjohn.
