Frederick J. "Fred" Egan, age 67, of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes with Monsignor Tim McGee celebrating the Mass. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes with a prayer service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be made in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Detroit Lakes. David-Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Share memories at www.david-donehower.com. Fred was born February 6, 1944 to George and Ann (Heiser) Egan in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was the 3rd of 6 children. He grew up in Detroit Lakes where he attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and then went on to attend Detroit Lakes High School. Following his schooling, he gained employment with the Fargo Foundry where he worked for several years. He then began his career with the City of Fargo, ND where he worked for 33 years, retiring in 2010. Fred was a man with a great work ethic, and aside from his career with the City of Fargo; he also took on several other side jobs to help support his growing family. He was united in marriage to Marlene Tollerud on July 9, 1968 in Sisseton, SD. The couple made their home in West Fargo. The union was blessed with 8 children. When Fred was not busy with work, he enjoyed time spent with his family fishing the area lakes and also camping on Long Lake in Detroit Lakes where they placed a seasonal camper. He liked to participate in any outdoor activity and enjoyed playing bad mitten and horse shoes with his family. He took great pride keeping a well manicured lawn and also in nurturing his vegetable gardens to fruitful abundance each year. Fred had a great sense of humor and liked to tease the ones he loved. He also enjoyed a good game of cards or dice. Fred had a strong faith in the Lord and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Catholic Church and also attended Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Fred is survived by his wife, Marlene of West Fargo; 5 children: Craig (Cindy) Egan of Sioux Falls, SD, Jodi (Monte) Marinucci of West Fargo, Teresa Snelson of Detroit Lakes, Clay (Theresa) Halverson of Detroit Lakes and Matt Hanson of West Fargo; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mary Nichols of Westerville, OH, Virginia Lagather of Columbus, OH, and Marjorie (Lowell) Jacobson of LaPlatte, Nebraska; 2 brothers: Kenneth (Mary Beth) Egan of Apple Valley, MN and Thomas (Sheryl) Egan of Chaska, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 children: Joyce Hanson, Dennis Halverson and Bonnie Johnson; son-in-law, Douglas Hanson; and brother-in-law, Ronald Nichols.
