Gary E. Friese, 77, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Essentia Health- St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral Services for Gary will be held Saturday, March 10 at 2pm in David Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be held in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
Gary Eugene Friese was born October 10, 1940 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Harry and Helen (Monson) Friese. He was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes, graduating in 1959. Following high school, Gary volunteered for the Army National Guard. On May 11, 1968, Gary was united in marriage to Bonnie Berg. Gary started and finished his career with Snappy’s in Detroit Lakes.
After 45 years working as a machinist, he retired in 2006. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing. You would often find him tinkering on small engines or having coffee with his friends. Gary also had a passion for hockey. In his high school days, he was known for his hockey exploits.
Gary was also known as an avid story-teller. He also enjoyed watching old country western movies, listening to records but most importantly spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gary will be remembered and missed by his wife Bonnie of Detroit Lakes along with four children: Bradley (Katherine) Friese of Bemidji, MN, LaDawn (Dave) Clark of Sauk Rapids, MN, Steve Jegtvig of Steamboat Springs, CO and Rhonda Jasperson of Lengby, MN. In addition, he is survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter: Brianne Jasperson
