Georgia (Granlund) Abbott, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 68 on February 15, 2025 at Essentia Medical Hospital, Fargo, ND, with her loved ones by her side. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Georgia was born on December 9, 1956 to William and Marilyn Granlund in Valley City, ND. She was the first born out of her 4 siblings (Craig, Cheryl, Grant and Gene). Georgia grew up and attended school in Moorhead, MN graduating from Moorhead High in 1974. She was united in marriage to Jeffry Abbott on November 20, 1976 and they made their home in Moorhead, MN where they welcomed two children, Jason and Genna. In 1989 they moved to rural Detroit Lakes, MN where Georgia worked for Castaway Club on Pelican Lake for many years. She also worked at Central Market and then McDonalds where people enjoyed seeing her and her witty personality at the drive-thru window. She could always put a smile on your face! Georgia never failed to light up a room with her beautiful smile and her infectious laugh.
Georgia loved going to Sturgis with her husband, along with many of her dear friends. In her free time, she loved to spray paint items like pinecones that she decorated and placed all around her home. She loved to be with all of her animals, especially her bunny, Ginger. Georgia loved being with her family and friends, cherishing every moment. Her children and grandchildren were her biggest priority, and she was always putting their needs in front of her own. She will always be remembered for her sarcastic comebacks and telling it like it is whether we liked it or not. She was always around to lend and ear and give comfort where needed.
Georgia is survived by her husband, Jeffry Abbott (Ogema, MN), son Jason (Jessica), grandkids, Noah, Natalie & Nicholas (Lake Park, MN), daughter Genna, granddaughters Tessa, Alyssa and Sadee (Detroit Lakes, MN). Her parents, William and Marilyn Granlund, brothers, Craig (Lorraine) Granlund, Grant Granlund, sisters Cherly (Frank) Farren, Gene (Ben) Bray, 2 nieces, Katie (Fo) Marquez and family and Sierra (Amado) Lovato, all of whom are in Colorado, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Nevaeh (2015), her in-laws, Lowell and Marlyn Abbott and sister-in-law Jill Abbott, aunts Gladys and Joyce along with many dear family members and friends who all held a special place in her heart.
Although she has departed from this world, the love and memories she created will remain forever etched in the hearts of those she touched.
A memorial service will is being planned for the late Spring of 2025 with a date to be determined.
