Georgina "Jean" Louise Caspers, 99, of Detroit Lakes, MN, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, under the compassionate care of Hospice at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing Nursing Home.
Born on April 18, 1925, to George and Anna (Safar) Polda on a small farm in Lidgerwood, ND, Jean's early years were spent in the Ogema, MN area. After graduating from Waubun High School in 1943, she completed her studies at the New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo, ND in 1944.
In 1945, Jean married the love of her life, Amor Caspers, and opened a beauty salon in Ogema. Following Amor's passing in 1966, she continued her salon work part-time from home while serving as Secretary of the Ogema Elementary School until her retirement in 2003. Jean relocated to Detroit Lakes in 2007.
A devoted member of the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema and later Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, Jean was also active in the Ogema 9880 VFW Auxiliary, Ogema Catholic Ladies Sodality, and Catholic Society of Foresters. In her younger years, she participated in PTA and 4H activities.
Jean cherished time with family, tending to her flowers, and baking, especially her renowned homemade chicken noodle soup and Kolaches. She enjoyed needlework, socializing with friends, occasional casino visits, and composing her annual Christmas greeting poem. Earlier in life, she delighted in bowling, golfing, and creating memories at the family's Strawberry Lake cabin.
Jean is survived by her children: Ronald Caspers (Strawberry Lake, MN), Donovan Caspers (Mountain Home, ID), Eloise (Michael) Luhm (Portage, WI), and daughter-in-law Sue Caspers (Detroit Lakes, MN). She leaves behind grandchildren Andy (Nicole) Caspers, Mike Caspers, Sarah Luhm, and Nicole Luhm, as well as great-grandchildren Zoey, Emma, Abby, Lydia, and Simon. Jean is also survived by numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Amor (1966), son Steven (2009), parents George and Anna Polda, sisters Mildred Olson and Beulah Jirava (and their husbands), brother Gilbert Polda, and sister-in-law Nita Polda.
Burial will take place at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Cemetery, Ogema, MN. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Jean's memory.
