Gerard (Jed) Paul Johnston age 70 of Detroit Lakes, MN died October 15, 2023 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley at Diamond Willow in Detroit Lakes.
There will be a visitation from 10AM until 11AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at David-Donehower Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11AM for family and friends.
Jed was born in Detroit Lakes on August 7, 1953 to Charles and Ann (Leff) Johnston Lemery. Jed grew up in Ogema, was baptized and confirmed at Most Holy Redeemer Church, attended schools in Ogema and Waubun, was on the wrestling team, and graduated from Waubun High School in 1971. Jed was employed at Ro-Banks, Agsco, and worked 34 years at Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes until retiring in 2008.
Jed loved his family and friends, spending time at Strawberry Lake, listening to classical rock music, going on Zorbaz’s bus road trips, dressing up for Halloween costume parties, being at Wednesday T-shirt events, participating in The Sandbar volleyball and horseshoe tournaments, and watching the Vikings, Twins, and NDSU Bison games.
Jed is survived by his siblings: Jim (Kathy) Johnston, Craig (Gurine) Johnston, and Brian Johnston all of Detroit Lakes; Barb (Ron) Grefsrud of West Fargo, ND; Eugene (Cheryl) Johnston of Albany, OR; and sister-in-law, Colleen Johnston of Big Lake, MN; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and great-great nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Annette Pawlak, and his brother Wayne Johnston. Jed will be missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
