Gideon Weber

May 23, 1927 — June 19, 2009

Gideon L. Weber, 82, Callaway, MN, died Friday, June 19 at his home under the care of Hospice Of The Red River Valley. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema, MN, Reverend Del Stohs, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN with military rites provided by Ogema VFW Post 9880, Ogema, MN. Friends may call 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM Monday, June 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema.


Gideon Leonard Weber was born May 23, 1927 in Medina, ND to Fred and Lydia (Essig) Weber. He was raised and educated near Cleveland, ND. Following his schooling, he worked in the family farm near Cleveland. Gideon served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he returned to the family farm. He purchased a farm near Beaulieu, MN and, on May 21, 1957, he was united in marriage with Florence Heinle in Detroit Lakes, MN. They made their home in Detroit Lakes where Gideon worked as a mechanic for Kandt Motors and later for Skogen’s Standard. In 1963, they purchased a farm near Callaway, MN where they made their home until his death.Gideon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ogema Post #9880 Veterans Of Foreign Wars.


Gideon enjoyed his grandchildren, his accordion, farming and fishing.


Gideon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Florence of Callaway; daughter, Tami (Roger) Handegard of Moorhead, MN; son, Tony of Ogema, MN; five grandchildren, Jacob and Isaac Handegard, Dustin, Donavon and Ryan Weber; brother, Ray (Kathy) Weber of Puryear, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elmer and a sister, Doris.
