Gladys J. Chapman was born January 13, 1914 in Fargo, ND to John and Antena (Frey) Anderson. Following high school, she attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN, where she graduated from their two year Intermediate Teaching Program. She also entered Interstate Business College and graduated from a one year course.
When she was 30 years old, she left Fargo for Detroit, MI where she met her future husband, Bert. Gladys was united in marriage to Bert Chapman January 30, 1945 in Fargo, ND. They spent their married life in Detroit. On July 27, 1991, her husband of 46 years, Bert, passed from this life. In 1993, she returned to Fargo to retire. Gladys was a member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school from the time she was 15 years old. She sang in the choir, worked in Luther League and the Dorcas Society and became superintendant of her department.
She loved rose gardening and being a leader in her church.
Gladys leaves a daughter: Linda Chapman of Ojai, California and a sister: Rosemary Bullock of Detroit Lakes, MN. In addition to her husband, Bert, she was preceded in death by a baby daughter who died at birth, her parents, and two brothers.
