Gordan Warnke

Gordan L. "Gordy" Warnke, age 72, of Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014, at his home, under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family following a long battle with lung cancer. Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2014, at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church (20996 Co. Hwy. 20, Detroit Lakes, MN). Fellowship will begin 2 hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Detroit Lakes. To leave online condolences, please visit www.daviddonehower.com. Gordan was born January 12, 1942, the youngest of two sons born to Orville and Lucille (Schooler) Warnke in Detroit Lakes. Gordan grew up in the Detroit Lakes area where he attended Detroit Lakes High School, graduating with the class of 1960. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States National Army, then Air Guard. He served for six years. Gordan met Sylvia Geray in Detroit Lakes. The couple was married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, MN on June 30, 1962. The couple was blessed with three sons: Jeff, Jesse and James. The couple made their home in the Fargo/Moorhead area, where Gordan worked as a delivery truck driver for Bunny Bread for a number of years, then gained employment at Red Owl Warehouse, where he worked for more than 20 years before retiring. The couple retired to Lake Ida near Pelican Rapids where they enjoyed retirement. Gordy enjoyed hunting and fishing, along with golf. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and his friends. He was a very social person and enjoyed visiting with people. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia of Pelican Rapids; three sons: Jeff of Pelican Rapids, Jesse (Rose Bradford) of Moorhead, and James (D'Ann) of O'Fallon, Ill.; five grandchildren: Kristopher, Zach, Taylor, Teagan and Allison; two great grandchildren; along with many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Arnold.
