Grace F. Collins, 94, Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Frazee, MN, died Tuesday, April 14 at the Frazee Care Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 20 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, Michael Ziemer, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Grace F. Collins was born December 21, 1914 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada to John and Jean (Tate) Brugman. She moved with her family to Alberta, MN and later to Morris, MN. She was a 1935 graduate of Morris High School. Grace was united in marriage with William Collins, Sr. in 1940 in Menahga, MN. They lived in several communities in Minnesota prior to moving to Frazee in 1950. She managed the Frazee Hotel and purchased the Frazee Bakery which was destroyed by fire. They rebuilt the bakery and operated it until selling the business to their son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Collins. She continued to work at the bakery until retiring in 1973. Grace and Bill divorced in 1969. From 1973 – 1976, she worked for St. Mary’s Catholic Rectory in Fargo, ND. In 1976, she moved to Park Rapids, MN. She later returned to Frazee and moved to Detroit Lakes in 1982. She entered the Frazee Care Center in January, 2009.
Grace is survived by a daughter, Jeanette Collins of Billings, MT; three sons, Bill (Karen) Colllins of Boise, Idaho, Marvin Collins of Owatonna, MN and Gary (Carol) Collins of Detroit Lakes; sister, Fern Brown of Morris, MN; and brother, Lyal Brugman of Great Falls, MT.; numerous grand, great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald and Douglas; her parents; a sister and two brothers.
