Gregg A. Johnson, 65, of Audubon, MN passed away into Jesus arms at his home on Monday, April 12, 2021 after a battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 23, 3pm at the Cormorant Lakes Sportsman’s Club. The service will be held outside, please bring a lawn chair.
Gregg Arlen Johnson was born on February 21, 1956 in Minneapolis, MN to Duane and Marvel (Peterson) Johnson. The family moved to rural Audubon in 1972. He graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 1974. After high school, he attended Detroit Lakes Technical College for small engine mechanics. In 1975, he started working at the Cormorant Store on lawn mowers. He also sold wood stoves for a few years and later started Johnson Construction, a carpentry/construction business working around the lakes area for over 20 years. In 1979, Gregg helped start the Cormorant Lakes Sportsman’s Club, where he was the building manager for many years. He had a passion to pass on the love of the outdoors to youth and provide a place for all to enjoy nature.
Gregg was united in marriage to Debra Erickson on December 17, 1977 at St. Peters Lutheran Church of Audubon. The couple were blessed with four children.
Gregg loved hunting, fishing, cutting wood, just being outdoors, and of course the Minnesota Vikings.
Deeply loved, Gregg’s passing is mourned by his wife Debbie; children Luke Johnson of North Carolina, Laura (Greg) Buschette of Mahnomen, Jake Johnson of Connecticut, and Jeffrey (Sadie) Johnson of Washington; grandchildren Alex and Jessi Buschette, Connor and Brooklyn Johnson; mother in-law Mary Erickson; brothers Terrance (Karilyn) and Larry (Mary) Johnson; and sister DeAnn (Tom) Johnson; bother in-laws Tim (Kris) Erickson, and Mark (Kim) Erickson; Aunts Betty and Shyla Peterson; and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Duane and Marvel Johnson; and sister Pam.
