Harley Grise

Perry Grise was born October 18, 1927, to Harley and Dora (Coats) Grise in Covington, OH. Perry attended school in Piqua, OH and the Lockington, OH area. Later in life, Perry moved back to Covington where he made his home before moving back with his parents and two brothers to Waubun, MN, in 1978. Perry was known for his mechanical ability and his love for music. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on old cars. He received his first guitar at age 16, and taught himself how to play it. He wrote and sang many of his own songs including his very own "Roses Just for You". He was a member of the band "Prairie Grass" with his brother and friends that his friends have continued to participate in. He enjoyed going to festivals and plays where he made friendships that lasted his life time. Perry peacefully passed away at age 89 on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN. Harley Grise Jr. was born November 14, 1930, to Harley and Dora (Coats) Grise in Piqua, OH. Harley Jr. attended school in Piqua and the Lockington, OH area. In 1954, he moved to Covington, OH where he met his future wife, Helen Gray. The couple married in July of 1956. Harley Jr. and Helen made many trips to Minnesota, where he worked at Itasca State Park for three seasons before returning back to Ohio. In 1978, Harley Jr. moved with his wife, parents, and two brothers to make their home in the Waubun, MN, area. Harley Jr. worked as a contractor. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, and restoring old cars. He had a sincere passion for playing the banjo, the guitar, and the keyboard. Harley Jr. peacefully passed away at age 86 on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Oak Crossing Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN. Perry and Harley Jr are survived by a sister: Betty Hall of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. They were preceded in death by their parents; three sisters: Alma Jacobs, Kathryn Spears, and infant, Lucille Grise; and two brothers, Henry Grise, and Alvin "Tony" Grise; wife of 29 years and sister-in-law: Helen; and Harley's dog: Bart. They will be missed by many. The family would like to thank all of their friends who did so much for them over the many years.
