Harold Johnson

April 30, 1921 — May 23, 2012

Harold Oliver Johnson was born April 30, 1921 in Lake Eunice Township, rural Audubon, MN to Otto and Clara (Johnson) Johnson. He attended a small area country school near Lake Eunice. After school he started farming on his own and helping out other local farmers in the area. On November 28, 1943, Harold was united in marriage to Ethelyn E. Dorff in rural Detroit Lakes. Harold later took over the family farm in Lake Eunice Township where he and Ethelyn started their family. They farmed the land and operated a dairy farm until 1978. Harold sold his dairy farm that year and started a second career in carpentry. He built several homes over time, custom cabinetry along with various remodeling projects. One of his proud accomplishments was assisting the construction of the Cormorant Lakes Sportsman's Club. Harold retired in the mid 1990's. In 1999, Harold and Ethelyn moved to Detroit Lakes. Harold loved to play cards with anyone who was willing. Even though he may have "bent" the rules during card play, he cherished the visits and laughs shared with his family and many friends. He enjoyed his "Sunday drives" any day of the week where he was able to check on the crops and scout for deer throughout the lakes area. He also enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada and the occasional casino trip to play a little blackjack. He was a life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he was very active throughout the years. Harold will be remembered and missed by his children: Karen (Gene Schultz) Eliassen of Cormorant, MN, Sandra (Wayne) Jacobson, Gerald (Arlyce) Johnson and James ( Sandy) Johnson all of Audubon, MN. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife: Ethelyn (2006), one grandson: Cory Johnson, one great grandson: Brady Johnson, and sisters: Violet and Irene along with brothers: Oscar, Avald, Jalmer, Arvid and twins who died during infancy.
