Hedvig Hoffert

Hedvig A. "Hedy" Hoffert, 82, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, Msgr. Timothy McGee, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 – 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and Christian Mothers Rosary at 7:30 pm Friday at Holy Rosary Church. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the mass at the church on Saturday. Hedvig Agnes Hoffert was born April 23, 1928 in McGregor, North Dakota to John and Mary (Niess) Goedert. She is a 1936 graduate of McGregor High School. Following graduation, she moved to Minneapolis where she was trained as a medical lab technician. She worked as a lab tech in Williston, ND, Morris, MN and Breckenridge, MN. Hedy was united in marriage to Balzer "Bud" Hoffert November 20, 1950 in Wahpeton, ND. They lived in Wahpeton until moving to a farm near Detroit Lakes in 1963. They operated the farm until Bud's death in 1994. Hedy moved into Detroit Lakes in 1995. She was active in Christian Mothers, Homemakers, as a volunteer for Hospice of the Red River Valley and Mac and Naps. She enjoyed crocheting, having made many afghans for the Head Start Baby Program and for the Benedictan Sisters at Mt. St. Benedict's in Crookston, MN. Hedy is survived by a son: Brad (Lisa) of Detroit Lakes, 5 daughters: Susan Hoffert (Kim Schell) of St. Paul, MN, Sara Hoffert (Doug Koenig) of Audubon, MN, Margaret (Don) Hermauer of Roseville, MN, Marlene "Molly" (Ken) Federer of Savage, MN, Lisa Kaldahl (Mike Whitehead) of Rogers, MN; 9 grandchildren: Kris and Karl Koenig, Scott (Erin) Nielsen, Natalie and Madeline Hoffert, Katie and Kyle Federer, Maria and Miles Kaldahl, 1 great granddaughter: Ella Nielsen. In addition to her husband, Bud, she was preceded in death by a sister, Florentine and 4 brothers: Louis, Clarence, Victor and Albert.
