Helen Jane Butcher, age 81, of Ponsford, Minnesota, passed away at her home on Thursday, March 24, 2016. A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford, the Reverend Jackie Bernacchi officiating. A visitation will begin at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, at the Old Pine Point School, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, and will continue until the time of service. Interment to follow at Breck Memorial Episcopal Cemetery in Pine Point. Helen was born on April 6, 1934, to Zach and Amy (Buckanaga) Rock in White Earth, MN. She graduated school at Pine Point School; where she would later teach art for many years. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Joseph Butcher and together they raised their seven children in Ponsford. She later worked for Hooker's Lumber Yard in Park Rapids, MN. She also worked for Swifts, and as a delivery person for home health meals. Helen was the owner and operator of Helen's Tavern in Pine Point for several years. Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren. She delighted playing bingo and also sitting around peeling copper wire. Helen enjoyed the outdoors when hunting, ricing, and leeching. She was very fond of her dogs and loved them very much. Helen loved going to Pow Wows. She is survived by her children, Isabelle Goodman of Round Lake, Julie Stewart of Ponsford, William Butcher Sr. of Ponsford, Bob Butcher of Ponsford; 22 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Zach and Amy; her husband, Lawrence Butcher; children, Violet Butcher, Junior Butcher, and Daisy Butcher; siblings, Margret Norcross, Saraphine Martin, Rose Bunker, Francis Rock, and Simon Rock; grandchildren, Lawrence Butcher, Robert Butcher Jr., Melissa Butcher, and Alyssa Butcher; and one great grandchild, Shawna Butcher.
