Helen Knopf

Helen O. Knopf, 91, Detroit Lakes, died Monday, November 30 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes. Funeral Mass for Helen will be held Saturday, December 5 at 2PM in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Friday, December 4 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5PM-7PM. Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 7PM followed by the Vigil Service. Visitation will also continue at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be held in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Helen Nester was born April 23, 1924 to Otto and Anna (Wollschlager) Nester in Detroit Lakes, MN. She grew up in rural Detroit Lakes, attended country school and graduated eighth grade from Holy Rosary School. On May 7, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to Frederick G. Knopf at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They farmed near Callaway, Waubun, Ogema and later settled near Rochert continuing farming near the Refuge. Frederick passed away in 1989. Helen then moved to Detroit Lakes where she became an active volunteer at St. Mary's Nursing Home. Helen's hobbies included gardening, sewing, quilting and playing Bingo at Oak Crossing. Her greatest enjoyment were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen will be remembered and missed by her children: Charles (Mary) of South Range, WI, John, David (Diane), Mary (Robert) Dumpprope and Joe Ed (Cheryl) all of Detroit Lakes and Jeanette (Tim) Jallen of Bismarck. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren along with 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband: Frederick (1989), two infant daughters, two brothers: Lawrence Noll, Vincent Nester, two sisters: Clara Friesen and Dolores Burkes, one grandson: Matthew Dumpprope and one great-granddaughter: Angel Knopf. David Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
