Helen E. Nygard, age 94, resident of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Strawberry Lake, MN died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM in Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church of rural Ogema, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday.
Helen Elizabeth Koski was born in St. Louis County, MN on October 28, 1913 to Kalle and Lizzie (Oorni) Koski. She attended country school in Becker County and later helped her family on the farm. On July 1, 1936 she was united in marriage to Karl Nygard and they made their home in Strawberry Lake, MN. Helen was a homemaker where she wove rugs and raised chickens while Karl was away testing dairy cattle. Even through the tough times of the 1930's Helen stood strong and proud, teaching her children the values of love and family. Helen was thankful for everything she had in life. She was a hard worker and led by example. She enjoyed playing cards, polka dancing, gardening, canning, knitting, crocheting, quilting and visiting with family and friends.
She will be remembered and deeply missed by her children; Jerry and his wife Eunice Nygard of Arlington, VA, Gordy Nygard of Georgetown, MN, daughter; Bonita "Bonney" Wegner of West Fargo, ND, one brother; William and his wife Janet Koski of Superior WI and one sister Laila Utke of Northridge, MN. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Karl, infant son; Robert, three brothers Richard, Armas and Harold Koski and one sister; Tyyne Soyring.
