Helena A. Nelson, 82, Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of West Palm Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, November 14 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A private family service will be held at a later date in Sterling, Massachusetts.
Helena Anna Welch was born May 13, 1925 in Worchester, MA to William and Lena (Rabidux) Welch. She was raised and educated in Clinton, MA. Helena was baptized and confirmed at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Clinton and married Leo B. Nelson February 12, 1945 in Clinton. They resided there where Helena worked at the local factories until moving to Homestead, Florida in August of 1965. Leo died November 7, 2002. Helena moved to Detroit Lakes later that year.
Helena enjoyed cooking, playing bingo with friends and traveling with Leo throughout the United States. She will be remembered and missed by her three daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Raymond DelGuidice of Leminster, MA, Margaret and her husband James Bevins of Mahnomen, MN, and Donna Korbel of Wellington, FL. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren. Helena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Leo; two sons, Leo B. Nelson III and Robert R. Nelson; two sisters and three brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
