Herbert Wendt

Herbert was born May 9, 1925, to Bernard and Lena (Neske) Wendt in Height of Land Township, Becker County, MN. He grew up and attended country school in Height of Land Township, where he learned English and he taught the teacher German. On March 10, 1946, he married Dorothy Carter at St. John's Lutheran Church of Height of Land in rural Frazee, MN. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was an Elder and Usher for many years. Herbert and Dorothy farmed in Height of Land Township from 1946 – 1990. Herbert also worked at other various jobs including – logging with horses in the Smokey Hills Forest, worked at various mink ranches, potato farms, and road construction. Herbert also did maintenance at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Lake Park and worked at Swift's turkey processing plant. In 1990, Herbert and Dorothy retired and moved to Detroit Lakes. Dorothy passed away in May of 2006. Herbert and Dorothy were blessed with 8 children, 21 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. Herbert enjoyed family and grandchildren, old time music, dancing, going to auction sales, gardening, collecting hats, and loved blueberries. Herbert is survived by 3 sons: Philip (Bonnie) Wendt, Paul (Carla) Wendt, all of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Danny (Sande) Wendt of Seabrook, TX; 4 daughters: Susan (Dennis) Stai of Sacred Heart, MN, Janie (Mike) Hulett of Moorhead, MN, Sally (Dennis) Jepson of Frazee, MN, Holly (Bob) Skillings of Detroit Lakes, MN; 21 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 9 step great grandchildren; 1 brother, Roman (Marian) Wendt of Frazee, MN; and 3 sisters-in-law: Rose Wendt of Detroit Lakes, MN, Cynthia (DeWayne) Bruns of Frazee, MN, and Phyllis (Bill) Jordan of Rialto, CA. Preceding him in death were his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; daughter, Jill; his parents; 1 brother, Reuben; and 3 sisters: Lillie, Mable and Hilda.
