Hilda Elizabeth Brose

Hilda Elizabeth Brose, age 78, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.  A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes, with a time of gathering an hour prior.  David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Hilda Elizabeth (Krein) Brose was born March 11^th, 1944, to a farming family in rural North Dakota. She grew up with six siblings: Arlene, Gladys, Arlie, Millie, David, and Jimmy. Hilda had her own chickens at a young age as her mother Elizabeth raised many chickens. Her father David helped her build a coop for them. She herded cows out on the prairie with a younger sister, Millie. The family enjoyed playing baseball in their yard. Education was important to Hilda,, she went on to complete a master’s degree in elementary education. She loved teaching and often had her class of students out to their rural home near Larimore for field trips. The kids would learn about turtles and tadpoles out by the pond. Hilda served them fresh buns or cookies for a snack. Hilda enjoyed cooking for others and often invited friends and family to their home for a meal. She loved to serve others. Hilda also enjoyed quilting and knitting and made many nice things to share with others. Gardening was also a passion. She regularly cared for her plants and shrubs, often sharing bouquets of garden blooms with neighbors, friends, and their Sunday morning church service.

Hilda married Jordell O’Neil Brose in June of 1966. She taught school while Dad studied for a job with the CIA. They traveled overseas where Dad was stationed while working for the government. Both of their children (Heidi and John) were born while living in New Deli, India. Hilda adjusted to life in foreign countries, made friends and gathered many recipes that she cooked for loved ones through the years…curries, Thai dishes etc

Hilda’s faith was very important to her. She chose Jesus at an early age and shared her love of Christ with those around her. She consistently read her bible. She was gifted a holy bible as a young girl after memorizing hundreds of bible verses. One of her favorite verses was John 3:16…for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Hilda would encourage you to have a relationship with Jesus also. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!

Her parents and sisters Arlene and Gladys preceded her in death.

We greatly miss her but are comforted knowing she is with her Jesus the Christ.
