Ida Smith

Ida M. Smith, age 92, resident of rural Callaway, MN, died Tuesday, January 8, 2007 at St. Marys Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes, MN.



Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 12 at 11:00 am in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Callaway, MN. Officiating will be Reverend Del Stohs. Visitation will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, January 11 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 6:30 pm prayer service. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be in the spring at Menahga Cemetery, Menahga, MN.



Ida Martha Golkowski was born February 3, 1915 in Frazee, MN to parents Carl and Dora (Steffen) Golkowski. She was baptized and confirmed at Evergreen Lutheran Church, rural Frazee and attended District 90 country school in Becker County. After school she helped out local farmers with housework and cooking. She married Earl Smith in 1938. They moved to Stephen, MN where Ida worked at a local hotel. One year later they moved to Menahga, MN and started a farm, raising purebred Hereford Cattle. They retired and sold their business in 1972 to Dan and Bonnie Isola. Ida then helped Dan and Bonnie with family household duties. She truly enjoyed her time with Dan and Bonnies children and always considered them as family. In 1974, Earl and Ida where building a new home when Earl suddenly passed away. Ida had the house finished and continued to live there for 13 years until moving in with her brother Arnold in June of 1988. Ida enjoyed cooking, shopping and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway

Ida will be remembered and missed by her brother Arnold Galkowski of Callaway, MN, one sister; Marian and her husband Duane Bellefeuille of Ogema, MN and three sisters-in-law; Lenora Galkowski, Valeria Jacobsen and Blanche Smith. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister; Alice Rolfes and one brother; Emil Galkowski.
