Idelle Bagne

March 11, 1927 — May 6, 2016

Idelle Serene Nornes was born to Bernt and Martha Nornes on March 11, 1927, at Winger, MN. She was baptized at Dovre Lutheran Church. She attended elementary school at Wide Awake School in rural Winger and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1944. She attended teacher training school in Thief River Falls and taught rural school before she graduated from Augsburg College in 1950. She was selected as Augsburg's first Women Honor Athlete in 1949. In 1950, she was listed in the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Idelle was inducted into Augsburg's College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. She graduated with a degree in English and Physical Education and taught at Milaca, Brainerd, Erskine, McIntosh, Mentor and Moorhead. Idelle married Roger Bagne in Erskine on June 5, 1955. They resided in Erskine after they were married until they moved to Moorhead in 1962. After she left teaching, she was co-owner with Roger of Roger's Cat Castle in Moorhead for 10 years. She then sold real estate for Wagner Real Estate and Town and Country Real Estate before retiring to Big Sugar Bush Lake in 1993. She and Roger moved into Pleasant View apartments in 2008, and while there, was President of the Tenant Association and taught bone building exercise classes. She volunteered at Oak Crossing Nursing Center in pastoral care for several years. They moved into Lincoln Park Assisted Living in 2012. Idelle was thankful for her devoted husband Roger and the awesome support and love of her family. Her greatest joy was living on Big Sugar Bush Lake where she was close to all of her nieces and nephews and extended families. She enjoyed her evening pontoon rides with her family, which was always a mini family reunion. She also enjoyed attending all the hockey games, which her family excelled in. She enjoyed following Troy Bagne's career at Moorhead High and at Notre Dame; watching Anthony star on the Varsity Hockey team at Armstrong; and Carmen's goalie days on Benilde Varsity team and leading goalie at the National Hockey Association in Lake Placid. Idelle enjoyed bowling, golf, snowmobiling, watching sports on tv, and writing poetry. Idelle was a faithful church goer at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, Christ the King Lutheran Church in Moorhead, and at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She taught Sunday school, read the gospel that preceded the sermon, and also served on the church council at Christ the King Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her parents; brothers Berdeen, Maurice, George, and Harold; a nephew, Lynn Nornes; Roger's parents; brother-in-law's, Roy, Dean, and Paul Bagne; and sister-in-law's, Grace Bagne, and Jill Nornes. She is survived by her daughters, Penny Aguirre of New Hope, MN, Patricia Song of Willow, AK; and son, Robert Bagne of Bloomington, MN; her former son-in-law, Ramon Aguirre of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren Anthony and Carmen; sister-in-law's, Uldine, Gladys, Margie and Joyce; and many nieces and nephews. Idelle was so grateful for her Christian upbringing and her parent's encouragement to her to always put God first in her life. One of her fondest gifts was a cross stitched plaque she received from her mother, shortly before her marriage to Roger, as a birthday present. It hung in every bedroom that she had and read as follows: "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good or kindness that I can show to any human being let me do it now. Let me not deter it or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again"
