Irene Oien

Irene L. Oien, 96, Audubon, MN, died Thursday, March 11 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, March 18 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Audubon, Reverend Paul Peterson, officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM Thursday at David-Donehower Funeral Home. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Irene L. Oien was born September 11, 1914 in Lake Eunice Township, rural Detroit Lakes, MN to Edward E. and Minnie K. (Matson) Peterson. She is a 1932 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. As a young woman, she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Detroit Lakes. .Irene was united in marriage to Rudolph I. Oien March 12, 1939 in Audubon, MN. They farmed in rural Audubon and Irene also worked for National Tea Grocery in Detroit Lakes. Rudy died March 6, 1990. Irene is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
