Irene C. Sandbeck, age 88, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services for Irene will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 10:00 AM in David-Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Irene Charlotte Natwick was born on May 23, 1921 in Ada, Minnesota to Theodore and Matilda (Versdahl) Natwick. She was raised and attended school near Ada. After school she worked for a few years at a restaurant in Ada. Irene was united in marriage to Harry K. Sandbeck. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND. Irene enjoyed following professional football, where on a regular basis she would play Sunday’s NFL weekly “Pick Em”. In 2002, Harry and Irene moved to Detroit Lakes to be closer to their son. Harry died April 9, 2002. Irene thoroughly enjoyed her stay at Oak Crossing, where she was able to meet new friends, play bingo and with her sense of humor, joke around with staff.
Irene will be remembered and missed by her son Steve Sandbeck of Detroit Lakes, MN, five grandsons: Dean (Melissa) Sanders of Beebe, AR, Darren (Rebecca) Sanders of Reed Springs, Missouri, Gene Sanders of Vilonia, Arkansas, Scott Sanders of Cabot, Arkansas, Chad Sandbeck of Detroit Lakes and one granddaughter; Sara (Ben) Peasley of Fergus Falls, MN. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and one sister: Margaret Jacobson of Hendrum, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry K. Sandbeck, daughter and son-in-law Karen and Bill Sanders and one great granddaughter Jordan Sanders.
