Irma E. Riley, 91, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, February 16 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 19 at 2PM at Oak Crossing-Chapel in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Irma Erseline Conta was born June 27, 1922 in Chisholm, MN to Caesar and Juditta (Brusacoram) Conta. At a young age she moved with her parents to Coleraine, MN where she was raised and educated graduating from Greenway High School with the class of 1940. After high school Irma attended Itasca Jr. College. On July 7, 1943 Irma was united in marriage to Robert Riley in Bovey, MN. They resided in Coleraine and Irma finished her RN schooling at Hibbing General Hospital-School of Nursing. Irma was employed at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids as a registered nurse for 27 years, retiring in 1984. Irma graciously volunteered her time at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Coleraine, serving on several committees throughout the years. She was also active with the Coleraine Senior Club. Irma wore the "Mom" cap to perfection. She was active in her sons' lives, from watching them ski jump at Mount Itasca, going on camping trips to Lake Winnibigoshish, to making sure she was present for all their activities while they were growing up. Irma provided a warm and loving home where she enjoyed cooking her Italian meals, entertaining family at anytime of the year and living by her professional motto as a nurse of, " be kind, be generous and be giving." Irma exemplified all these traits. During her retirement, Irma enjoyed spending the day at the lake with her family and friends, whether it was fishing or just a social gathering, the time spent was always cherished. In 2009, she started a new chapter in her life when she moved to the Winchester in Detroit Lakes. She loved the staff and the care she received along with the many friends she made over the years. It also brought her closer to her family, which was number one for Irma. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Irma will be remembered and missed by her two sons: Patrick (Judy) Riley of Fargo and Tim (Jeanne) Riley of Frazee. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Kristi (Bruce) Miller, Justin Riley, Ryan (Judith) Riley and Lindsay Riley, two great-grandchildren: Kylee Jean Miller and Tegan Willow Miller, along with one brother: Arthur Conta of Lemon Grove, CA.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert.
