Jehu David McJunkin, known as David, was born July 30, 1918 in Geneva, Illinois to John and Edith (Olson) McJunkin. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Wheaton, IL where he graduated from Wheaton High School in 1936. He attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in English from North Central College in Naperville, IL. David was united in marriage to Martha Jeanette Clarke, July 18, 1941 in Ravinia, IL. They lived in Geneva, IL prior to David's entering the U. S. Army during WWII. Following his discharge, he returned to Geneva. They moved to Evanston, IL in 1956 where he spent his working life selling envelopes and silverware. Because of his affective sales presentations, he was named Salesman of the Year by the Easterling Silverware Company. He retired in 1976 and moved to Sheboygan, WI that same year. In 1971, they purchased land near Detroit Lakes and spent their summers here until moving here full time in 1988. Martha died in 1993 and David continued living on the farm until moving to Lincoln Park in 2009. He entered Oak Crossing in 2012. They enjoyed sailing, especially on Lake Michigan and Cormorant Lake. David also loved drawing, having illustrated and published 2 books. He was an avid swimmer until age 90 and enjoyed singing in the St. Luke's Episcopal Choir. At the age of 74, he resumed his early love of golf which he played until age 84. He also enjoyed listening to Lawrence Welk, the Minnesota Twins and Jim Reaves. At age 80, he took up dancing. He also spent 10 years wintering in Arizona. Survivors include 5 daughters: Martha McJunkin of Bethesda, MD, Mary (David) Ochsner of Wabasha, MN, Kathleen Byer of Moorhead, MN, Laura (Allan) Loeffler of Plymouth, WI, Ann McJunkin of Seattle, WA, 2 sons: David (Mary) McJunkin of Eugene, O, John McJunkin of San Diego, CA, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a sister: Margaret Youker of Peoria, IL. In addition to his wife, Martha, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Eggleston.
