It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Jacob Cooper, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, who tragically took his own life on January 8, 2025. Jake was 35 years old.
Born on June 16, 1989, to Anna and Scott Cooper, Jacob was known for his sarcastic sense of humor, infectious laugh, and deep sense of loyalty. Jake was the proud father of two amazing boys, Landyn(15) and Riley(14) Cooper, who brought him endless joy and purpose. His love for them was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was fishing or hanging out together.
Jacob had a deep connection with nature, and fishing was his greatest passion. He found peace in the rhythm of casting a line and the serenity of the water, often escaping to his favorite fishing spots to recharge. His friends and family remember him as someone who could always be counted on for a laugh, making the BEST French toast, or a helping hand.
Jacob is survived by his parents, Anna and Scott Cooper; his sister, Chelsea Loining; and his sons, Landyn and Riley Cooper. He was also cherished by close friends and all who knew him, including his bestie, Sara (aka “Rimmy”). Though he struggled privately with demons that many did not see, his loss leaves a hole in the hearts of everyone who loved him.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to mental health organizations or local suicide prevention efforts, so that others might receive the support they need to find hope in their darkest moments.
Jacob’s passing is a reminder to us all to check in on those we love, to offer compassion, and to seek help when we need it. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, especially in the eyes of his two sons, who were the light of his life.
A private memorial service will be held for immediate family members.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 28th, 2025 at Dunton Locks Park (24878 Dunton Locks Rd, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501) from 1pm – 4pm. All who knew Jacob are welcome to attend, share stories, and celebrate his life.
Jacob, you will be missed more than you could ever know.
