James McConville

August 13, 1925 — February 7, 2011

James L. McConville, 85, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, February 7 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Lake Region Honor Guard. Friends may call 5:00 until 7:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM and Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Friday at Holy Rosary Church. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. James Leslie McConville was born August 13, 1925 in Leonard, North Dakota to Michael and Emma (Johnson) McConville. He was raised in Fargo and attended St. MaryA�A�A½s Catholic School and is a 1943 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy (now Shanley High School). Following graduation, he served as a Corpsman with the U. S. Navy and Marines in WWII and was in the first wave of soldiers to land on Iwo Jima, February 19, 1945. Following his discharge, he returned to Fargo where he attended Interstate Business College. Jim was united in marriage to Helen Hoffman in Fargo. He worked for Midland Hospital Supply prior to starting his printing business, The Secretary Shop. He also operated a print shop for the city of Fargo during that same time. Following the sale of the Secretary Shop, he operated a print shop for Northern Water Works in Fargo. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1969 and Jim commuted to Fargo until retiring in 1987. Jim enjoyed good music, fishing, building and flying remote control airplanes, hunting, western movies and playing cards. Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen of Detroit Lakes, a son: Paul (Colette) of Crystal, MN, a grandson, Broc (Kacie) of Crystal, MN, two sisters: Ermine McConville and Eunice Swanson both of Sacramento, CA, two nephews: Michael and Frank Swanson. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Gertrude McDougall and Irene Johnson and two infant sisters.
