James Raymond Murphy was born April 17, 1928 in
Hopkins

MN
to Daniel and Mary (McClousky) Murphy.
He was raised and educated in
Blakley
,
MN
.
He then worked on area farms until joining the U. S. Air Force.
Following his discharge, he owned and operated a Phillips 66 Service Station in Pelican Rapids, MN.
He moved to
Detroit
Lakes
in 1957 and owned and operated Jim’s Phillips 66.
He later sold the business but continued to work for the new owners serving the lakes area residents for over 30 years.
Jim finished his working career as a courtesy driver for Detroit Lakes Ford-Chrysler-Dodge.
He was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Devine Murphy July 9, 1966 in
Detroit
Lakes
.
Betty died in 1975.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, serving his customers, going on fishing trips, bowling and gardening.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a church usher, Holy Rosary Council 3166, Knights of Columbus, served more than 28 years on the Knights Of Columbus Knighthood Degree Staff, the Elks, Eagles, John Bridges Post 15, American Legion, delivered Meals On Wheels and served for over 20 years on the Detroit Lakes Fire Department.
