James Walz

James Michael Walz was born February 19, 1924 in Perham, MN to Michael and Theresa (Schoeneberger) Walz. He was raised and edsucated in Detroit Lakes attending Holy Rosary School and Detroit Lakes High School, graduating in 1942. Following graduatioin, he attended NDAC in Fargo, ND. Jim served with the U.S. Navy 1944 - 1947. Following his discharge, he attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1952. Jim was united in marriage to Loretta Petersen, July 23, 1966 in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and Jim taught in Waubun, MN, Lodge Grass and Columbus, MT and, for 26 years at New York Mills, MN. He retired from teaching in 1986.

In addition to teaching, Jim enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, hunting, traveling, the Knights of Columbus, especially the 3rd Degree Initiation Team, being a Eucharistic Minister and teaching the 55 Alive driving classes.

Survivors include his wife: Loretta of Detroit Lakes, a son: Christopher of Detroit Lakes, 2 daughters: Catherine Walz of Elizabeth, MN and Carol Walz of New Hope, MN. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and a sister.
