Janice Johnson

Janice Arlene (Larson) Johnson, age 85, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.  Her family was at her side. 

Jan was born in Evansville, MN on June 23, 1938, a daughter of the late Carl O. and Lillian A. (Sauers) Larson.  She attended local schools, and was a 1956 graduate of Evansville High School where she was active in the choir and the Library club.  Jan went on to further her education, eventually becoming a CNA.   Jan married Rudolph M. Johnson on January 30, 1960 and together they raised three children.  

Jan and her husband lived in Moorhead for many years, and both were active in the VFW and American Legion while there.  The two retired to Lake Six in Frazee where they built their own home.  After Rudy’s passing in 2001, Jan relocated to Halstad.   She worked at Halstad Senior Living until she was 80.  She loved the outdoors, and was active in local aerobics clubs as well as walking with her neighborhood groups.  She enjoyed playing horseshoes and bowling with her husband in earlier years, and also enjoyed crocheting and ceramics. Her greatest love, however, was for her family.   She will be sadly missed.

Jan is survived by her children: Scott Johnson, Detroit Lakes, Tina Johnson, Detroit Lakes and Marci Hoff of Pelican Rapids.  She also leaves a sister, Wanda (the late Marvin) Rosten; her grandchildren: Cameron (Cassidy) Lee, Arielle (Nate) Mickelberg, Megan (Kyle) Sem, Gavin Hoff, Tatum Hoff, Jazzmine Yunker, Chayse Yunker and Lindsey Stewart; her great-grandchildren: Austin, Sadie, Anna, Walker, Aaidn, Mylee, Henrik and Alba.  She also leaves nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rudlolph, a son-in-law, Jeffrey Hoff, as well as her siblings and her husband’s siblings.

The memorial service for Jan will be held at David-Donehower Funeral Home, 609 US HWY 10 E., Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 1 PM with Pastor Lauryl Ivers officiating.  Memorial visitation will be one hour prior. Final rest will be private.
