Jean Wetteland was born on November 3, 1929 in

to Thurman and Hulda (Hanson) Wetteland.
She attended school in
Audubon
,
MN
graduating in 1948.
Following high school, Jean attended
Concordia
College
in
Moorhead
,
MN
, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History.
While attending Concordia, Jean met Herman Meier and they were united in marriage on August 26, 1950.
They resided in
Felton
,
MN
where Jean taught English for three years.
They later moved to Bagley,
Hutchinson
and
Moorhead
before returning to
Detroit
Lakes
.
Jean will be remembered and missed by her husband Herman, two sons: Richard (Patrice) of
Sioux Falls
, SD and Philip (Christie) of Wadena, MN.
She is also survived by five grandchildren: Erin (Matt) Karlgaard, Emily (Brent Langston) Meier, Seth Meier, Anna Meier (Kyle Svennungsen, fiancé) and Anders Meier along with three great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Elijah Karlgaard and Paige Meier Langston.
In addition, she is also survived by one sister; Shirley Steinhaus and brother, Thurman (Vaida) Wetteland and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Liz Utke and two brothers-in-law, Loren Steinhaus and John Utke.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to
