Jeanetta "Poncho"

Jeanetta L. "Poncho" Jones, 69, Mahnomen, MN, died Wednesday at the Mahnomen Emergency Room. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Monday at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Ponsford, Fr. Joseph Hitpass, O.M.I., officiating. Interment will be in St. Theodore's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 PM Sunday until the time of the mass on Monday at the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford. Jeanetta Lee Jones, known as "Poncho", was born June 8, 1947 in Ponsford, MN to Melvin Buckanaga and Dorothy Axdahl. She was educated in Ponsford and attended Park Rapids High School. She later attended college in St. Paul, MN and worked as an administrative assistant, most recently for the Upper Midwest Native American Center. She retired in 2013 and moved to White Earth, MN. She moved to Mahnomen in 2014. Poncho enjoyed time with her grand and great grandchildren, BINGO, the casino, she also enjoyed time with her many friends, Pow Wow's, traveling, playing cards and her music. Survivors include her four children: Kerry Padgett of Bemidji, MN, Jamie (Mark) Jones of White Earth, MN, Melanie (Dave) Stone of Mahnomen and William Jones of Mahnomen, MN; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Duane "Bud" (Bev) Axdahl of Ponsford, MN, Roxanne (Mike) Flammond of Minneapolis, MN, Patty Escobedo of Watertown, SD, Mike Escobedo of Onigum, MN, Cathy (Vang) Reyes of Pine River, MN, Chrissy (Mike) Iverson of Excelsior, MN, Mike Buckanaga of Mahnomen, MN, Evy Buckanaga of Mahnomen, MN, Donna Bunker of Cass Lake, MN, JoAnn Sailer of Long Beach, CA, Mabel Bellanger of Ponsford, MN, Paulette Rock of Minneapolis, MN, Sam Rock of Minneapolis, MN, Theresa Rock of Minneapolis, MN, Pam Rivera of Minneapolis, MN, Sandy Levy of White Earth, MN. a special Aunt: Mary Beckett of Cass Lake, MN. She will be dearly missed by her many family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Dorothy, her Aunt Frances that raised her from a child, two brothers; David and Patrick and many other family members.
