Jerry Simonson

Jerry D. Simonson, 67, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Wednesday, April 18 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Shell Lake, rural Detroit Lakes, Reverend Phil Johnson, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites Provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call 11:00AM – 1:00 PM Saturday at the church. Jerry Dean Simonson was born March 24, 1945 in New Rockford, ND to Maynard and Florence (Nordgaard) Simonson. He moved to Detroit Lakes, MN with his family in 1947, was raised in Height of Land Township and is a 1964 graduate of Frazee (MN) High School. Jerry served with the U. S. Army 1965 – 1967. Following his discharge, he returned to Detroit Lakes where, during his working life, he worked for Coca Cola and for Culligan Soft Water. He retired in 2008. For the past 25 years, he has lived at Shell Lake Resort with his special friend, Kathleen Chase. Jerry loved fishing, hunting and visiting with people. Survivors include daughter: Carla Simonson of Lake George, MN; son: Daniel (Shauna) Simonson of Apache Junction, AZ; his special friend, Kathleen Chase of Detroit Lakes, Robert Chase of Fergus Falls, MN, Edward (Gwen) Chase of Vadnais Heights, MN, Michael (Amy) Kaip of St. Michael, MN; grand children: Kelsey Simonson, Brandon and Ethan Chase, Marrisa and Hannah Pedersen, Taylor and Casey Fieldsend, Madisyn Botton, Chloe, Chieze and Grace Kaip; a great granddaughter: Zoey Chase; sisters: Elnora (Cecil) Adams of Detroit Lakes, Judy Nyberg of Fargo, ND and brothers: Larry Simonson of Hillsboro, ND and Manley Simonson of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley
