Jethro D. Nelson, 32, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, October 21, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident near Strawberry Lake, rural Ogema, MN. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, October 25 at Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church in rural Ogema, with Delmer Yoder and Jessie Swiers, officiating. Interment will be in Egelund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
Friends may call 4:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 24 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Jethro Dean Nelson, known as Jed was born June 13, 1975 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Ricky and Valerie (Marsh) Nelson. He was a 1993 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. Following graduation, Jethro attended United Technical Institute in Chicago, IL where he earned his Master Mechanics degree. He married Sarah Linden September 14, 1996 at Detroit Lakes. They lived in Detroit Lakes prior to moving to Billings, MT where he worked as a mechanic for Fitchner Chevrolet and later operated his own auto repair shop. Jed and Sarah divorced. He returned to Detroit Lakes in October, 2006 and had worked for Nereson Chevrolet since that time.
Jed enjoyed spending time with his children, family and friends, drag racing, snowmobiling, extreme sports, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his two sons, Wyatt and Garett; a daughter, Rylee; his companion, Sheri Mitchell; Sheri's daughter, Autumn; his parents, Rick and Valerie Nelson, all of Detroit Lakes; a brother, Edwin (Tiffany) of Bremerton, WA; sisters, Emily (Todd) Yliniemi of Ponsford, MN, Bonnie (Ken) Garro of McGregor, MN; grand and great grandparents, Diane Balstad of Bemidji, MN, Phyllis Wilson of Park Rapids, MN, Elsie Nelson of Detroit Lakes.
