John Oellien

November 8, 1923 — January 27, 2014

John B. Oellien, 90, Osage, MN, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at Golden Manor in Detroit Lakes. A celebration of John's life will be 1:00 PM Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, Reverend Sara Jensen, officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Osage Cemetery in Osage. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. John Bernard Oellien was born November 8, 1923 near Canby, MN to John and Jennie (Benson) Oellien. He was raised and educated near Canby and then joined his father on the family farm. John was united in marriage to Mary A. Jackson November 29, 1944 at Garfield Lutheran Church in rural Madison, MN. They farmed near Canby until 1967 when they moved to rural Osage, MN. John held a number of jobs including many years with the Noeske Lumber Company. In his later years, he mowed the grass at the way-side rest area for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. John enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing reading and woodworking. He was also a longtime member of the Osage Sportsmen's Club. One of his greatest joys was helping in raising his great grandson, Tristan (Annie's son). Survivors include his wife, Mary of Osage, a son: Carl (Mary) of Detroit Lakes, a daughter: Linda (Daniel) Hanson of Park Rapids, five grandchildren: Edward, Ken, Luke, Thomas, Ginger; seven great grandchildren: Mayson, Tristan, Tiffany, Josh, Abby, Jaxon, Callie; a great -great grandson: Anthony. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Annie, five brothers: Ted, Orville, Martin, Clarence, Edward and a sister: Genevieve.
