John Schueller

November 11, 1918 — January 9, 2010

John Phillip Schueller was born November 11, 1918 in Frazee, MN to Christian and Mary (Bachleitner) Schueller. He was raised and educated in Frazee and was a 1936 graduate of Frazee High School. He served with the U. S. Army from1941 – 1945 in the Pacific Theatre where he was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart and attained the rank of 1 st Lieutenant. John was united in marriage to Bernadette Boedigheimer October 8, 1943 in Perham, MN. Following his honorable discharge they settled in Moorhead, MN where John worked for Gambles. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1945 where John continued to work for Gambles until joining the U. S. Postal Service. He worked as a mail carrier for the Postal Service until retiring in 1980. John and Bernie then spent their summers in Detroit Lakes and winters in Alamo, Texas from 1981 - 2002.


John enjoyed dancing, gardening, hunting, fishing, antiquing, furniture refinishing, playing cards and time with his children and grandchildren.


Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Bernadette; two sons: Ronald (Diane) of Cottage Grove, MN and David (Marybeth) of Cottage Grove, MN; six grandchildren: Joseph (Jennifer), Jessica (Fiancé, Kevin Schmitt), Daniel, Katherine Schueller, Andrew, Timothy (Kristina) Gibson; two great-grandchildren: Karleigh Schueller and Astin Gibson-Martinez; and a daughter-in-law, Lucy Schueller of Winona, MN. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerome; three brothers: Joseph, Peter and Edward; and four sisters: Tracy Schram, Madeline Atkins, Margaret Nelson and Liz Wothe.


The Schueller family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley and staff at Oak Crossing for there exceptional care of John during his stay.
