Jonah Sweeney

Jonah Matthew Sweeney was born on June 22, 1981, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Patricia “Patty” (Homiston) Sweeney. Jonah was born and raised in Detroit Lakes and moved to Lake Park when he was 12 and attended school in the Lake Park area. After graduating with his GED in Detroit Lakes, he worked various jobs in the food industry as a chef. He moved to Colorado for a few years before returning to Detroit Lakes.

On March 16, 2016, Jonah was united in marriage to Laura Tufte in Alamosa, Colorado. To this union a son Logan was born. The couple have resided in Detroit Lakes. Jonah was proud to be a chef and enjoyed cooking in the hospitality industry before refurbishing cars and selling them until his passing.

Jonah’s great joy was being a dedicated dad to Logan; the two were inseparable. Everyone knew his love for his family and described him as having a heart of gold. He would help everyone and anyone. He enjoyed collecting rocks, coins, Hot Wheel Cars, painting, fixing cars, motorcycling, snowmobiling and spending time with family and friends.

Jonah is survived by his wife Laura; son Logan; mother Patty; brother Christopher; sister KandiLeAnn; grandmother Lucille Bohlin; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Jonah was preceded in death by his grandfather Carl Bohlin.
