Joseph Richard Horacek, 86, of Detroit Lakes, MN died on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Joseph was born on April 3, 1937, the son of Vratislav "Vic" and Olga (Dvorak) Horacek in Iowa City, IA. His family spent a few years there, but later moved to Cedar Rapids when Joseph was at the age of four. Joseph's passion for education led him to a fulfilling career working at the Technical College in Detroit Lakes, MN until his retirement. He was known for his commitment to his students and his colleagues. Joseph's educational journey included graduating from Wilson High School, attending Coe College, teaching for a few years before pursuing further studies, and ultimately earning his Master's of Education from Bemidji State.
Outside of his professional life, Joseph found immense joy in being a grandfather. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and creating lasting memories with them. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, bicycling, playing hands of whist, and participating in fantasy baseball leagues.
Joseph was an active member of the Rotary Club and a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes. His involvement in these organizations showcased his commitment to serving others and making a positive impact in his community.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, children: Rich and Cindy (Dave) Kingrey, grandchildren: Quinn Horacek,, Grace Kingrey, Avery Horacek, and Sarah Kingrey.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents.
Services to honor and celebrate Joseph's life will take place at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes on March 4, 2024. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
