Josephine H. Benson, age 97, resident of Pelican Rapids, MN formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.
Josephine Hazel Duffney was born November 15, 1910 to Henry and Alice (Houle) Duffney. As one of eleven children, she was raised in Holmesville Township in Becker County and attended school at District 77. She lived on a farm in Rochert, MN until she was 18 years old, when she moved to Lake Park, MN to work at a cafAC.. After several months, she moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, and got a job at Brahmer?s CafAC.. A year later she became employed at a grocery store where she worked for five years. She next worked at Ohmans cafAC.. On May 31, 1938 Josephine was united in marriage to Arnold Benson in Detroit Lakes. When the Ohmans retired, Josephine and Arnold took over ownership and operation of the cafAC. for eight years. They then started Bensons CafAC. which they owned for twenty years. .
In 1996, Josephine moved to the River View Apartments in Pelican Raids and in 2007 she moved to the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids. Josephine was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes.
Josephine will be remembered and deeply missed by her four children, Marlys Benson of Osakis, MN, Vernon and wife LaVonne of Pelican Rapids, MN, Charlotte Myhre of Spanaway, WA and Saundra Benson of Osakis, MN. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Wade (Lisa) Benson and Rayna (Brian) Zima along with two great grandchildren, Mitchell and Jared Benson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Benson, her parents, six brothers and four sisters.
